Reasons for taking this course

 

Function Point Analysis (FPA) is the functional standard for sizing software products and the processes involved in its development. Performance measurement in contrast to the measure of effort. The measurement is based on the user vision.
 
Function Point Analysis (FPA) includes concepts that can be understood by both the developer and customers. Therefore, the quantification of software production becomes meaningful for both parties.
 
During basic training "Function Point Analysis: Software Measurement and Estimation" participants will learn the rules, procedures and practices based on the latest version of the User Group International Function Point (IFPUG) Manual through presentations, exercises and operational activities dedicated to measurement and estimation.
 
What motivates participation in this WorkShop are the following items:

 

 To explore issues that are not addressed in the IFPUG manual such as the institutionalization of a measurement methodology and meaningful information on tools to support the disciplines to measure and analyze.

  • To improve their skills to measure and estimate through case studies based on inputs and domains which are different and unexplored.
  • To have tools for supervision and control of the software measurement activities as the most common errors found in measurements and validation techniques and auditing.

In addition to these points, some issues that were not discussed in the basic training will be discussed in this WorkShop as the following:

  • Although the Function Point Analysis is a technique commonly used. It is independent of the technology or the development process. When a new technology is included, a tendency to ignore certain factors that can significantly influence the measurement process.
  • A lot of times, the measurement results are accurate for the purposes that led to its realization. Although the technique is simple and easy to understand, there are practical tools that partially help and automate the measurement.

Course Objectives

  • The objectives of this course are the following:
  • Complement basic training regarding procedures, rules and practices of measurement and estimation from different inputs and domains. The correction and comments made by experienced instructors and certified as specialists in Function Points also complement the training.
  • Provide technical instruments for people responsible for approving software measurements and estimates can point systemically delivered tools that are candidates for evaluation and scrutiny in a process of quality assurance.
  • Supply a discussion area for the discussion and answering of any doubts and question about software measurement using  FPA with the help of our experts (CFPS) and development of group activities.
  • The team practices in validation, measurement auditing and tool testing are an essential . The participant will be able to implement the Function Point Analysis according to the organization. The latter seeks to address very practical questions about the implantation of this technique.
